Midwifery Legislation

As you may be aware, this spring was the first time that midwives of Idaho took a bill before the legislature to create a licensure. This option would allow midwifes to legally possess and use certain life saving drugs (oxygen and anti-bleeds) that are within the scope of the CPM certification as well as receive third party reimbursement. This allows for the families of Idaho more choice and offers them the opportunity to utilize their insurance coverage in a setting other than the hospital. Idahoans for Midwives worked hard to contact people who supported this bill and encouraged them to inform their senators. The senators were impressed by the strong support for this bill. Thanks to all you who gladly offered your assistance in supporting this cause! Unfortunately, the bill was retained in committee until some technical issues brought up by opponents are worked out.
